ANTARCTICA
CONCLUSION
A Path to Peace of MindThe ways through this garden can direct, as your mind might take you there - to understanding, enjoyment, reflection, or finding; if fortunate ---- a path to peace of mind. Outside this area, is the lake, with the five climatic regions of the world represented, as you walk around. A 'pondola' ride is optional. Those interested can meet at the statue of Atlas, to hear his story. THE STORY OF ATLASIn Greek mythology Atlas has the task of bearing the world and the vault of heaven on his back forever. Now, Heracles, who in the Roman form was known as Hercules, had been assigned 12 tasks by Eurystheus, now called the 'the labours of Hercules.' One task was to find some golden apples. The Hesperides, three in number, were the daughters of the night, or, some say, the daughters of Atlas, and guarded trees which bore golden apples. Atlas was the only one who knew where the apples were. So, Hercules had to ask a favour. Hercules offered to take upon himself the burden of the load of holding the world while Atlas went for the apples. Atlas agreed. -Atlas returned with the golden apples and quite sensibly said that Hercules could continue the task of holding the world, and he, Atlas, would take the apples to Eurystheus. But clever Hercules asked Atlas to take the load for just a moment while he got a pad for his shoulders. to ease the pressure. Atlas was tricked, and finds himself on permanent duty, to this day, at Danielle's Garden.
